Cooking Papa – A Review

The author’s debut novel, Cooking Papa, is not only a good read; it is also something that children will enjoy. The book is about a little Italian boy who lives with his grandmother and half-brother in California. Papa is from a family of Italian immigrants and the family consists of five generations now including two sons and one daughter. Because of their large family, cooking is an important aspect of their everyday life. They are good cooks and often break old habits that they inherited from their forefathers. This book takes you on a journey through the kitchen and teaches the readers to cook like an Italian chef.

I really enjoyed this book because cooking is such a crucial part of the culture. Cooking Papa shares the experiences of an Italian family in the process of learning how to cook authentic Italian cuisine. The book gives a great insight into the culture and tradition of cooking and also includes recipes that are easy to make and fun to eat. For the novice cook, this book provides a good way to start understanding the basic ingredients and techniques that go into making Italian dishes.

After reading the engaging stories of each family member, I was inspired to create a family recipe that my mother would absolutely love. Since most of the recipes come from their family recipes, I felt like I was privy to a first hand account of what their families do in the kitchen and it gave me a unique opportunity to share some of their favorite recipes. Cooking Papa gives the reader recipes that range from traditional family fare like lasagna to vegetarian meals and everything in between. It is an entertaining read that will bring a smile to everyone’s face.
