Baking Product Recommendations

Let’s start with my all-time favorite piece of kitchen equipment, the Kitchen-Aid mixer. Let me tell you right now, if you do not own one of these and want to make cakes/desserts, then you NEED to get one. I got my Kitchen-Aid as a hand-me-down from my Oma’s house and it is my best friend. The best part about this piece of equipment is that there are so many extra parts they make that will making your baking experience even easier. When you purchase a standard mixer it will usually come with the mixer, the bowl, a flat beater (commonly called a paddle), a dough hook, a wire whip, and a burnished spiral attachment. You can buy products separately for your mixer. For baking purposes I would recommend the following:

· Additional bowls, lids for the bowls, different sized bowls

· Additional Flex Edge Beaters (Paddles).

· A Wire Whip

· A Pour Shield

· Ice Cream Maker

The next kitchen appliance I would highly recommend to people would be to get a good cake serving dish. Personally, I love the cake plate with a lid that I bought from Williams-Sonoma. I think that it keeps my cakes the freshest for the longest and it is reasonably priced when considering nice cake plates. You can also get your plate monogrammed with your initials. Another benefit of having a good cake serving tray is that you can also spin the cake while you are frosting it.

I would recommend that you have good cooling racks, because they can determine how well your cake tastes in the end. I’m not too particular on brands for these, but I do usually by Wilton cooling sheets. If you are working in a smaller space, I would suggest the stack-able racks. I would also suggest using the Wilton cooling racks that have less space between the wires. You do not want too much space between the wires and have your cake be misshaped or fall through the rack.

Another product that is needed when frosting a cake is the icing spatula. You can use whatever icing spatula you would like, but personally I really like the Cake Boss collection of icing spatulas. They have the perfect shape for every different type and shape of cake. You can get these spatulas on the Cake Boss website, but you can also get them in many local stores such as Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I recommend you look into buying a cupcake dispenser for when you are making cupcakes. Having a dispenser means that it will be easier to fill the cupcake tins to the same amount in each one. There are many brands and you can find them at almost every store with cooking appliances.

I hope that these recommendations of my favorite and most helpful tools will help you in your baking endeavors.
